The Friday Note (21.03.25)

THE FRIDAY NOTE (21ST MARCH 2025)

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

I hope everyone who met their child’s class teacher this week found these meetings useful in keeping you updated with your child’s progress. If you missed your appointment with your child’s class teacher, please reach out to them directly and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Please find attached some important information for the week ahead!

SUSTRANS: BIG WALK AND WHEEL CHALLENGE

We have some exciting news for you! We are taking part in the 16th year celebration of Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel, the UK’s largest inter-school cycling, walking, wheeling and scooting challenge. The challenge runs from 24th March to 4th April 2025. It’s free to take part and we would love everyone to be involved!

Each day we will record the number of children who walk, scoot or wheel to school and this will enter our school into a UK wide and a local competition, giving the children the chance to win some fantastic prizes which include bike accessories, Halfords vouchers and even a chance to win your own scooter or bike worth £550! Please note- you can park and walk/wheel if you live too far away from our school.

EASTER EGG RAFFLE

From Monday, tickets will be on sale in every class (until Tuesday 15th April) for our annual Easter Egg Raffle! Tickets are 10p each. Draws will take place each Friday in assembly, until our final prize draw on Tuesday 15th April at assembly! This year the money raised will be donated to Nits and Natters who work tirelessly throughout the year to raise funds for NI Breast Cancer charity ‘Pretty ‘n Pink’ and Southern Area Hospice.

Thanks in advance for your generosity and for supporting these charities!

SEAG PREPARATION CLUB

From next week, P6 children who plan on sitting the SEAG tests in November will begin their preparation work in school (with Mr Bourne) and after school on a Thursday (with Mr Scott-Mulholland). If you’d like your child to be prepared for the SEAG tests, please email me (ascottmulholland193@c2kni.net). Thank you!

SICKNESS

If your child experiences vomiting or diarrhoea, please ensure they remain at home for 48 hours after the last episode. This is in line with NHS guidelines to help prevent the spread of illness in school. Thank you for your cooperation!

SMARTIES FUNDRAISER

The Smarties tubes (filled with 20ps) should be returned to school by 4th April! All money raised will go towards our Parents’ Council fundraiser. Thank you for supporting us!

NI FINALS: BOYS INDOOR FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

Some of our P7 boys travelled to the Shankill Leisure Centre, Belfast on Wednesday of this week to compete in the NI Integrated Schools’ Indoor Football Tournament finals! The boys played amazingly and fended off some very stiff competition from the other schools. Clearing their group, the boys made it through to the knockouts and were eliminated after the quarter-finals. Well done boys for representing our school so well- you did us all proud!

INTEGRATED EDUCATION MONTH

Each year, integrated schools celebrate Integrated Education Month, which is an opportunity for the collective celebration of Integrated Education and reflection on what makes us unique. For 2025, the theme is ‘Celebrating Cultural Connections’. Keep an eye on our socials next week to see all of the learning our pupils have been doing ahead of Integrated Education Month.

Next Friday (28th March) children can come to school wearing non-school uniform. We would encourage everyone to wear an item of clothing that represents their identify- we’re looking forward to celebrating the diversity of our school!

FIRST CONFESSION

First Penance/ Confession for those P4 children who are making their First Holy Communion later this year will take place on Tuesday 25th March at 6pm in St. Malachy’s.

CLASS ASSEMBLIES

Miss Macartney’s class will be leading our assembly next Friday (28th March). Mrs McCormick’s class will be leading our Easter assembly on Friday 11th April. Parents of those children involved in these assemblies are welcome to attend- assembly begins at 9.30am each week.

As always, if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child’s class teacher or myself via Class Dojo. I am also out at the front of the school each morning and as much as possible each afternoon if you have any issues or concerns. If you have a safeguarding concern, Mrs O’Braonain (our Designated Teacher for Child Protection) can be contacted by email at aobraonain211@c2kni.net.

Have a great weekend,

Mr A Scott-Mulholland (Principal)
